The collective farm was closed down after the Chernobyl disaster because of health risks and was two years ago reopened again. Kosovo, Rabovce, 4.2.2009 (c) DANIEL ROSENTHAL Serb enclave. The Serb Slobodan Spasic, 62 years, an unemployed railway worker feeds the chickens at his farmhouse. Rabovce is a mixed Serb-Albanian village about 20 min drive from Prishtina. Until the war Albanian and Serb people lived peacefully together in this tiny village. Up to now the Serbs say that they feel unsafe to move freely in the Albanian surrounding and that they are discriminated against.

Bulgaria, Haskovo province, Harmanli, 21.11.2013 Harmanli refugee camp. Mohmad Amin Hamo, 40 years with his daughter Sima sits on a camp bed in front of their tent in Harmanli camp. Mohmad lost his right lower leg in a bombardment on Aleppo (by Assads army) two years ago. He came together with his wife Hansa Kalaf, 35 years and their 4 children 50 days ago to the camp. They are Syrian Kurds. Harmanli refugee camp is located at the outskirts of Harmanli town about 45 km awy from the Turkish and Greek border. The refugees face appalling conditions in Harmanli camp, lack of medical and psychological assistance, not enough food (if at all mostly bread and potatoes), unheated tents, refugees are not provided with firewood to cook and heat so they have to search for it in deserted army barracks on the compound, absolutely unsufficent sanitory facilities, lack of electricity. At the moment about 1300 refugees live in hte closed camp, thereof about 70 percent Syrian Kurds (Afghans, Pakistanis, Iraqis, Africans) who fled the horrors of the war in Syria and travelled through Turkey into Bulgaria hoping for EU standards. Since January 2013 about 10.000 migrants, the majority Syrian have arrived in Bulgaria. Entering Bulgaria (the EU) as a refugee will get even more difficult in the near future as Greece built a high security wall at the border and Bulgaria plans to implement similiar measurements.
